Where to next?

So I turned on Sportscenter this morning and was watching some of the recap from last nights Eagles’ game and they were interviewing Donovan McNabb.  All I could think of was Marshawn Lynch’s interview last week. McNabb said that as a team, each individual said that they can do better and for the last couple of weeks they have been doing.  It goes along with what I talked about yesterday and veteran leadership.  The Eagles have enough players who know what it takes to win and the Bills didn’t have enough players stand up and say I can do better when things got tough they crumbled.

The Sabres and Bills are both at somewhat of the same time in terms of development and age, but the big difference is the young players on the Sabres went to back-to-back conference Finals and had savvy veterans to learn from and hopefully start to carry over for themselves and you’re starting to see Vanek, Roy, Pommer, Gaustad and the rest of the team take that leadership role. I’m just not sure where the Bills are going to look to get it outside of Marshawn Lynch and maybe Donte Whitner.  I really hate Tom Donahue as a person for having back-to-back-to-back TERRIBLE drafts.  It’s beyond annoying that his first day picks have turned into almost nothing and that’s why we’re lacking the veteran leadership.

On a side note, Syracuse managed to lose to Cleveland State on prayer.  I’m not even that upset about it because the game shouldn’t have been that close and Syracuse played terrible, but seriously, what a freakin shot.

Why wouldn’t that game have been that game have gone that exact way.  It’s almost like the Bills managed to wrap their whole season up in one game.  A whirlwind affair that left you feeling like you had been stood up on a blind date.  I was rather ho-hum about the whole game, but they managed to get me hooked no matter how much I tried and they did a great job punching me in the gut at the end.  At least we finally got a touchdown.

-Is JP Losman going to get a contract next year?  That’s a serious question.  He has fumbling issues, sacks issues and can’t throw the ball accurately.  Now obviously someone is going to sign him to some sort of deal, but I can’t wait to see what kind of contract he’s going to get.  Seriously, how do you complete 24 balls for only 148 yards?  Everyone said that Edwards loved the check down, but are our receivers even open?

-I’ve been saying for a long time that I’m high on Steve Johnson and with Hardy going down and Roscoe Parrish being worthless at the position I hope they use the last two games to at least get a look at him.  Roscoe needs to go and they need to bring in a veteran number two receiver to complement Evans and allow Hardy and Johnson to grow.  Will they do that, probably not?

-How great was it watching a young TE catch balls and outrun our defense all day?

-I’m glad to see that Marshawn finally got over twenty carries (21) but seriously, what the hell were they thinking throwing on that second down play before the two minute warning?  The only thing I can think of was they thought they’d catch them off guard and an incompletion would’ve gotten them to the warning anyways and JP should’ve thrown the ball away. But come on, seriously.  I’m not joking that I think the top 10% of knowledgeable Bills fans could call a better game than Turk Schonert has in weeks.

-Donte Whitner had 9 tackles and a decent second half, but he was atrocious for that first half and it killed the Bills.  He looked slow and lost and I have to say it was scary to see that.

-Fred Jackson’s touchdown run was a great play and that’s where they really hooked me today.

-Who didn’t think there was a flag on that McKelvin return?  I just hate CBS for not putting the symbol up sooner because they tricked me.

-Did Dan Dierdorf say golly gee, twice?

Game Ball obviously goes to Marshawn Lynch who deserves so much more credit. 21 carries for 127 yards and went over a 1,000 yards. If Edwards can’t go next week I saw the Bills run the Wildcat the whole game.

This next two weeks needs to be serious talent evaluation time for the Bills and the front office. I’m watching players like McKelvin, Lynch, Johnson and the line to see if this team can really use these pieces for next year.   I laughed today when Losman fumbled because it was funny how fitting it was.  My wife said it scared her how calm I was after the game and it’s because this team has taken the life out of us.  Don’t get me wrong, I bleed Buffalo blue and red (or blue and gold depending on the day), but we’re a disgruntled union of fans.  We’re like the UAW who doesn’t want to face the reality that this team and franchise could be worse off than we expect.  There are a lot of players that need to be addressed whether or not they are going to help Buffalo win games any time soon and the coaching situation is going to need to be addressed sooner rather than later one way or another.  It comes with the territory, but right now as a Bills fan there are a lot more questions than there are answers.

A look ahead

I’m stealing almost every bit, no I am stealing every bit of information from www.wgr550.com but they did good stuff today.  It looks like we get to see Ryan Miller again in net tonight and god only knows when the goalie that is Patrick Lalime gets another shot in net.  Also, this whole Miller and ref thing is ridiculous from every angle.  The ref shouldn’t have said it, we shouldn’t be talking about it, but we are and I’m sure we’ll hear all too much about it tonight on the game.

Also, you gotta love the article they have about Marshawn Lynch.  A guy who has every reason to start saying they should give me the ball more and pulling a Clinton Portis, didn’t.  He stood up and said I can do better.  If more people did that, the Bills would be better, the world would be better.  The Bills need more players like him, chasing down quarterbacks who run out of bounds on your sideline and playing with heart. He has fun, plays with energy.  That’s what this team misses.

And more importantly, god help us if I have to watch JP on another Sunday.  FTLT is even moving away from their JP defense.  He’s got 3 games to play for his next contract.  Good luck with that.

How bad was that to watch?  Honestly, if this team hasn’t become a joke enough.  I’m not even sure where I’m going to go with this, but here’s my best chance to wrap up that piece of shit:

Needless to say, I hated that game.  I hated hearing those Dolphins fans cheer, I hated that the game was in a dome.  I hated everything about today.

JP Losman is gone, out of here and not a good quarterback.  How funny was the CBS breakdown of his progressions and then they put a ?.  That was hysterical.  I’m sure someone is going to pick him up and give him a chance, but he’s going to play himself out of a solid contract.

Wonder if I'll have a job next year?

Wonder if I'll have a job next year?

This is becoming a broken record, but how about Marshawn Lynch carries the ball for more than 13 times?  I don’t care that he had 31 yards, you need to commit to him and give him the ball.

Seriously, our offense is awful.  That was the second game in a row that was painful to watch.

We’ve all ripped play calling and it was a combination of play calling and execution, but the first down call to run a fade to Evans in stead of Hardy was atrocious.

The Bills do not have a single player on their team that is in the top 5 of their positions.  The talent just isn’t there.

The Bills are a sloppy team and it started with Losman, but Royal had a drop (Go figure), Lynch had a drop and there were numerous other instances where this team was sloppy and showed why they are not as close as the rest of the AFC East is.  And for the second week we had a bad snap?

Is anyone else sick and tired about hearing how hard and how much heart Ryan Denney and Chris Kelsay have and play with?  They aren’t that good and it’s compounded by not having a health Aaron Schobel on the other end.

Can we just fast forward 5 months until the draft?

Wish we were at this point now.

Wish we were at this point now.

I wasn’t even sure how this was going to end up and it pretty much went the way I thought it would because of the ways played. Discombobulated and unorganized.  I don’t care what anyone says, the coaching is awful at the top and Turk has taken a dive.  It’s like a Mike Martz offense and we don’t have that type of personnel.  The reason I like Steve Johnson is he seems to be the only one that gets the middle of the field.  The Bills need a tight end to stretch the middle of the field.  We need a center that can handle playing against a 3-4.

Game balls go to all of us Bills fan for dealing with this shit.  It’s awful.  I don’t know why we keep doing this, but we do and I love us and this organization, but it feels like a bad marriage and we are constantly taken advantage of and abused.  On top of it we had a game ripped away from us. I don’t go to many games any more, but I have lots of friends who are season ticket holders and they’re angry.  We’re constantly told we’re not a good enough region for a football team and need to do things to survive.  Well today the Bills played like they didn’t deserve us as a fan base, although they always will have us.

Delayed Reactions

Alright I apologize for the hiatus, but the last 5 days have been a whirl, a great one at that.  Although yesterday’s game was far from what I was hoping for as a cap of the weekend.  The Bills are not good, they may not even be that close to being a good team and in my opinion it starts with their coach and here are my thoughts on the game:

Ever since the word of extension for Dick Jauron came out this team has been beyond sloppy.  Terrible clock management, bad penalties, turning the ball over and changing how they call plays.  Not to mention Dick Jauron’s “even temperament” is fucking annoying to me and no one on this team ever has any emotion on the sideline and barely does in the game.  I hope the 49ers don’t want Singletary, because I’ll take him right now.

3 trips to the red zone and another drive that started on SF 25 and we got 3 points?  Ridiculous.  Rian Lindell is Monday’s bum, but we should’ve been better than that against the 3rd worst scoring defense.

Above mentioned drive that started on the SF 25 was a 3 and out and we didn’t give the ball to our best player.

How in the world does Marshawn Lynch only end up with 16 carries?  Seriously, someone try to put a legitimate answer together on that one.  He was an absolute beast and we give him the ball 16 times. I don’t get it.

If I read one thing about JP Losman, I’m going to throw up. Yeah he played alright, but we all know he’s out at the end of the year.  Trent Edwards is making silly stupid mistakes a lot like Eli Manning did in his first couple years, problem is the Bills are way worse than those Giants teams.

Rian Lindell should not be a Bill next year, I’m sorry.  He has not made one clutch kick in his career in Buffalo outside that Washington kick and a handful of big misses.  Spend that money elsewhere.

Even more out the door is Roscoe Parrish.  For the second time this year he inexcusably fields a punt on the 1.  The 1!!!!!!!!!  What the fuck are they teaching at Miami?  Not to mentioned he blew that touchdown. I don’t care what Tony Boselli says, Roscoe should catch that.  Yes, he’s a good punt returner, but this team needs a receiver first and a returner like 20th.  Not to mention Leodis and Freddy can do a more than sufficient job back there.

Ryan Denny is better than Chris Kelsay.

We need a pass rushing DE beyond believe.  The defense played an extremely good game and did what they could to help keep this team in the game.  But we need turnovers and turnovers come off pass rushing.  QB fumbles like they did yesterday and it forces them to throw too soon.

Throw in a center in that one.  Duke Preston has played admirably, but isn’t going to cut it and neither is Melvin Fowler.

We scored 3 points against San Francisco at home?

Game ball easily goes to Marshawn Lynch

Goats of the week are Rian Lindell, Roscoe Parrish and Dick Jauron, all of whom I hope are not part of our team next year.

Next week, I don’t even care.  Let’s go 6-10 so we can just get draft picks.  This team is infuriating and the coach is infuriating and the whole organization is infuriating.  I’m not giving up as a Bills fan, but they’ve done a number on me this season.  I hope Trent Edwards is healthy to put together a couple games and see where we are.

Alright, thank god the Bills pulled this out and pulled this Buffalo sports weekend out of its misery.  Let me just say that they scored 54 points.  I don’t care how or what you want to say, that was fun.  We needed that.  They have a mountain to climb, but for today I had fun as a Bills fan.  There was a lot to like out of today’s game and going forward there are things to look for going forward.  Most importantly my wedding weekend is saved with this win.  Here are some of the thoughts from today:

Leodis McKelvin is a football player. I thought he had a good cover game against the Browns and he finally was rewarded with 2 INTs and a TD.

Stud two weeks Leodis. Nicely done!

Stud two weeks Leodis. Nicely done!

Good bounce back game from Edwards, pushed the ball down field and didn’t make mistakes. He showed mobility and poise in the pocket. It obviously doesn’t take the last month of the table, but let’s be serious. That was a hell of a football game that he played today.

Did anyone else notice that Mitchell gave Taylor Thigpen a love tap on a potential safety?

George Wilson just makes plays when he gets the chance.

It was good to see the Bills actually create some turnovers and what a nice stick by Reggie Corner.

I love the Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch combo and they were on the field together on the fourth-and-one play.

Maybe it’s just me, but did the Bills run more play action today than they have in the last month?

I think we all see how much of an impact that Josh Reed has on this offense.  He finds seems, blocks well on running plays and he’s a great teammate.

Good to know that Lee Evans is still a Bill.

How good would this Bills defense be with a healthy Aaron Schobel and Angelo Crowell?

Thankfully Randy Cross wasn’t calling the game and I could hear the brilliance that is Solomon Wilcox.

Another hit out of bounds and an awful call?  I’m beginning to think that Troy Polamalu is right.

Pansy league

Pansy league

On a side note, I think Kansas City has a pretty good team and could develop into a nice team.  I like Dwayne Bowe, Jamal Charles and they have some really good young players on defense.

Game Ball:

Leodis McKelvin.  Now if only James Hardy and/or Steve Johnson can develop. I frankly don’t care which one it is.

Where this leaves the Bills, I don’t know, but we can all regroup and enjoy Thanksgiving thinking the Bills are still in the race.  But New York dominated Tennessee and that was not something I was hoping to see.  Realistically the Bills need to go at least 5-1 and if they lose it had better be to a NFC team.  Next week brings in the 49ers the day after my wedding and I’m hoping some friends can stick around to watch the game, but I like the Bills at home next weekend to keep this ride going.  30-13 Bills next week with the cross country trip killing San Fran.

Immediate Reactions: New England 20 Buffalo 10

That just solidified what everyone was expecting.  The Bills are an average football team.  Three weeks in a row they have not been able to get a team off the field when they needed to.  19 plays and 9 plus minutes?  Really?  With the Jets blowout and Dolphins game it is an awful looking situation for the Bills.

Two interceptions by Trent Edwards were awful throws and really cost us the game.

Offensive line has easily become another downfall of this team.  Pass protection was non existent and Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson did everything they can to make it worthwhile.  I have to wonder if Melvin Fowler is that good because the nose tackle has absolutely destroyed us.  This isn’t a quick fix and at this point in the season there is no improvement so get ready for more of the same.

What about the goal to go situation where we run the ball on 2nd down and then Edwards checks to a run on 3rd down.  This team isn’t allowing themselves to succeed.  No play action, no fade route, no chance.  Obviously, the offensive line has no push and throwing the ball there out of the shotgun would open up options.  Edwards has ok mobility, why not utilize it out of the shotgun there the way the Matt Cassel did against us?

Obviously, we can’t defend the short passing game. Period.

How much does this team miss Angelo Crowell, he was the playmaker on this team creating turnovers and being a leader.  We cannot create turnovers and miss his ability in pass coverage as well.

This team is definitely a year away.  I liked that Hardy got the late touchdown and that Reggie Corner made a couple solid plays and Leodis had the nice return.  That’s where we are, taking solace in the development of these young players evolving into next year.

Next week:  Monday Night Football, Bills vs. Brown.  I think the Bills bounce back, regroup against a weak Browns defense and save some face on National television 27-17 Bills.
